Whenever we’re in California, we’re always thinking about brunch. Something about those tall palm trees and gorgeous weather makes us crave the nearest avocado toast and chai latte. Urth Caffe is one of the most visited cafes in California, with six locations sprawled throughout the large state. It’s no surprise that their organic teas and baked goods is what brings customers into this cafe, but we had to try it out for ourselves to see if it lived up to the hype.
Our first starter was the chocolate and pistachio croissant. Elizabeth loves chocolate and well I love pistachio. It seemed like a match made in heaven. We were excited to see a hefty portion of shredded pistachios on top of a chocolate drizzle and hoped that the pistachio flavor carried through to the inside of this pastry. Unfortunately it did not. While Elizabeth enjoyed it, as she does with anything drizzled in chocolate, I felt somewhat disappointed as I was expecting a stronger pistachio taste.
We split the Egg Salmone, which was two soft poached eggs with smoked salmon on multigrain toast served with sliced melon. The poached eggs were perfect and went great with the salmon and arugula. The only caveat was that, while it tasted great, it was reminiscent of every other Eggs Benedict dish that we’ve had. Somewhat disappointing for a hyped-up organic cafe.
The saving grace of this meal: the organic green tea blended boba. We love Boba (aka bubble tea). Urth Caffe prides itself on authentic green tea from Japan, and it definitely comes across in their green tea drinks. Unlike most places where you can taste the artificial-factor in their matcha powders, this green tea was flawless and was refreshing on a hot day out.
Overall, Urth Caffe is a great place to go if you’re looking for organic drinks and teas, however we recommend doing another quick look for a bite to eat.
